Time, Place, Path, and Pace (Or What Is a School?)

  • Member: $15.00

In education, just about everything is on the table, open for debate and change. In particular, four areas are under intense scrutiny: time, place, path, and pace. How should we organize our time in school for deepest learning? Do students really need to be in a physical space with a physical teacher? What does the ideal educational path look like in the near future? How much learning needs to be group-focused and individual focused? Should students be allowed to proceed at their own pace? Should mastery be the goal in everything we do in school? This issue explores the evolving structure of school — looking at emerging models in public, private, and independent schools. (This is our 75th anniversary issue.)
