NAIS institutes are grounded in best practices in adult learning and provide our members with intensive training and peer networks that will educate and sustain both the individual and the school community.  

TABS-NAIS Global Symposium

April 30 –  May 2, 2017; Miami

The TABS- NAIS Global Symposium, an annual event, brings together school leaders, educators, and experts to explore emerging best practices in effectively serving international students and families and developing global citizenship in all students — across the academic and social domains of school life.

Diversity Leadership Institute

June 25 - July 1, 2017; Alexandria, VA

The Diversity Leadership Institute (DLI) is an intensive, week-long, residential program that provides you with the tools to lead and manage change in your school.  DLI empowers you with the content, experience, and network you need to lead your school toward becoming an inclusive and transformative learning community.

Institute for New Heads

July 10 - 16, 2017; Atlanta, GA

At this five-day residential program for individuals starting their first or second year of headship, you’ll build a strong peer network and acquire an understanding of the essential tasks of headship. You’ll return to school armed with a toolkit of resources.

Institute for New Financial Aid Professionals

Webinars: July 11, 12, 13

July 24-25, 2017; Baltimore, MD

In this blended program that includes three webinars, a pre-assignment, and a 1.5-day in-person event, participants will build their expertise in managing the financial aid process through hands-on application, case studies review, and discussions. After the workshop, they will leave feeling well-prepared to take on the upcoming financial aid season.

School Leadership Institute

July 25 - 28, 2017; Alexandria, VA

At whatever stage you are in in your career, the School Leadership Institute (SLI) is a key step in your leadership development. This intensive, three-day, residential program helps you better understand your own leadership style and identify strengths as well as areas for improvement. You'll design an individual professional development plan and develop a strong network of peer leaders from throughout the independent school community.

Advanced Financial Aid Topics Workshop: Demystifying Self-Employment

July 26-27, 2017; Baltimore, MD

Tackle the toughest self-employment issues in financial aid. This workshop is a 1.5-day in-person event that includes case studies and small group work where participants gain skills to make better awarding decisions for business owners of all types.

School Leaders Forum

July 27-29, 2017; Baltimore, MD

The 2017 SSS School Leaders Forum is a blended learning experience that features pre-event homework assignments and a 1.5-day, in-person workshop geared to help leaders with a vested interest in pricing, enrollment, and economic diversity envision strategic solutions for achieving access and affordability in today’s challenging enrollment management environment.

School Leadership Team Experience

July 31 - August 3, 2017; Potomac, MD

Take your team beyond yearly evaluations and tedious meetings to get to the core of what makes successful school leadership work. NAIS, in partnership with the Division of Education Leadership at George Mason University (GMU), will host the School Leadership Team Experience (SLTE), a special three-day learning experience for independent school leaders this summer. The institute will bring together school teams of 3-5 individuals who hold leadership positions in your school, including the head of school, to focus on collaboration and building leadership capacity to support school improvement. Consult with educational leadership experts as you work through the real and specific challenges and opportunities facing your school. 

Equity Design Lab

August 2 - 4, 2017; Potomac, MD

The NAIS Equity Design Lab (EDL) employs iterative design, mind science and other research, skill-building, and best and emerging practices. The goal is to develop innovative solutions and models that independent schools can use to address challenges and opportunities related to equity and social justice. The August EDL will focus on culturally responsive teaching and learning.

Leadership Through Partnership

October 13 - 15, 2017; Chicago

Held each fall, the NAIS Leadership Through Partnership (LTP) workshop provides your school’s head and board leader(s) the chance to collaborate and strengthen their partnership. Away from busy day-to-day life, they can identify shared goals for their school. Together they learn more about the challenges that their school — and the independent school community — are facing.
